April 19 was an interesting set up. A large closed low over the intermountain west would meander without moving much eastward this day. A surface low would develop over northeast Colorado with a boundary extending into Nebraska. This boundary would be to focus for severe thunderstorm development. Several storm first formed north into Nebraska and went severe. I decided to play the tail end storm which ended up being the prettiest storm of the day. Explosive convection developed north of Sterling mid afternoon as a substantial LP supercell formed. This storm produced at least one brief tornado, if not two! Check out the photos and judge for yourself.

Large intense low precipitation supercell developed. Check out the rock hard convection and the developing lowering under the updraft.
The first brief ropy tornado forms. You can see a small debris cloud under the funnel.

This is a video still of the tornado. Nice ropy tube, but not in contact with the ground here (unless debris swirl is not visible).
Snakey funnel dances around as another lowering forms.

You be the judge. Tornado? Or not? Some say it was, others say it wasn't. From my vantage point, it looks quite interesting. Nonetheless, the structure of this storm was breathtaking!!!
