May 23rd looked like a classic Texas panhandle day, with the exception of fairly weak flow at anvil level, which proved to be fatal for viewable tornadoes. SPC put out a PDS tornado watch box by midafternoon and things looked pretty interesting. Rapidly developing supercells formed by 4 PM and became quite a messy situation as too many storms formed.  It was virtually impossible to get a glimpse of any tornado for a long period of time as they wrapped with rain quickly.

Check out the photos and video stills below:

Beastly rotating supercell updraft. Notice the tilt and striations. This was northwest of Miami, TX.

Hard to see in this video still, but there is a rather large dark tornado in the middle of the photo below the power lines. Very hard to see tornadoes this day.

Intense supercell in Hutchinson county, looking west.

Monster HP supercell, spinning like a top!

Tornado (enhanced in low light) in the notch of this supercell.

Another shot of the tornado.

Closeup shot, with a bit of enhancement to bring out the tornado.

Supercell is almost upon us. We blasted south to get out of the way of the baseball size hail that was starting to fall.
